MoneyFromHome.com not as Advertised Part II

In my last post I discussed the special reports and what I didnt like about the layout of Moneyfromhome.com. Now lets talk about the actual jobs listed on the website. When you go to visit moneyfromhome.com you’ll see a few different pages talking about the work at home jobs. The website boasts having over 1000 work at home jobs available.

“there is something for everyone and job seekers have over 1000 pre-screened home job opportunities to choose from… Remember they’re 100% Home-Based!”

The site also has a page featuring this month’s hottest job and employer of the month, however, the featured employer of the month, GE finance has been so for the past three plus months.

In the “month’s hottest job” section moneyfromhome tells you about a wonderful job opportunity. At the bottom of the description box it says to “log on now and apply right away” if your interested, however when you click on the “log on now” link you are taken to the members room and not to the actual job. You have start searching their database in order to find this “hot” job.

The same thing happens with their featured employer of the month. At the bottom of their “Featured Employer” box they state: “For more information about this job, members please log in and view it in the ‘Clerical’ category.” However, there is no clerical section and the sections that resemble clerical, Office Support/Admin/research which has about 20 listings, doesn’t have GE Consumer Finance listed anywhere. What I don’t understand is why do I have to go searching their database for these jobs if they could simply list it right at the front of the member’s section. We are paying for this service aren’t we.

I want to make it clear that the website does have some jobs that may be potential work at home opportunities however I have found that some of the jobs listed aren’t even available as I will explain later.

1000+ Jobs?
I think one of my biggest issues with moneyfromhome.com is that they don’t have 1000+ jobs in their database. Here is a breakdown of the categories in the database with the number of jobs per category.

Category breakdown:
Accounting/bookkeeping: 7 jobs posted. 4 out of 5 are from same company. All require years of experience.

Artists/Graphic Designers: 14

Assembly Hand and craft work: 40

Business Management: 5 - Its more like administrative and property management type work.

ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS SUCH AS ADMINISTERING BILLING SYSTEMS, COLLECTING ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE, KEEPING TRACK OF CLIENT DEADLINES, FILE MANAGEMENT, MINOR IT SUPPORT, SALES CONTACT MANAGEMENT, ETC. MUST HAVE MORE THAN 3 YEARS OF STRONG CPA OR PROFESSIONAL FIRM EXPERIENCE IN A SIMILIAR JOB.

Business opps from home: 135

Consultants and Analysts: 10

Customer Service/ Tech Support: 10 - Some jobs are not available. See below.

Data Entry and Transcription: 82

Editors/Proofreaders/Writers: 20

Human Resources and Recruiting: 20

IT and Programming: 48

Mail order business: 23

Medical: 10

Misc job types: 50

Mystery shopper: 20

Office Support/Admin/research: 20

Online tutors, Scorers, Moderators: 10

Phone Work Inbound/Outbound (Telemarketing): 62

Real estate, Insurance, Law: 60

Reservationists and Travel agents: 10

Sales/marketing: 250

Translators and interpreters: 10

Web Developers/Designers: 20

The total number of jobs listed is 946, however, 135 of those are business opportunities which involve paying money for the opportunity to start your own biz. These are the type of jobs you would find in Entrepreneur magazine and really can’t be included 1000+ 100% home based jobs listed in their database. In addition many jobs listed in other categories are also biz opps requiring you to pay money upfront. Here is one listed in the medical section:

OWN YOUR OWN DISCOUNT PHARMACY
OWN AND OPERATE YOUR OWN DISCOUNT PHARMACY WITHOUT BEING A LICENSED PHARMACIST OR PHYSICIAN. LUCRATIVE, LOW OVERHEAD. INVOLVES $3000+ INVESTMENT

You’ll find these types of biz opps scattered all over the database.

100% Home Based?
If all the jobs listed in the database are 100% home based then the following two jobs shouldn’t be in the database. Both are in the same section and if I would have spent enough time on it I would have found loads of others that aren’t home based either.

Listed in the Business Management category:

MANAGE A RESORT
UNIQUE WORK AT HOME JOB! THIS IS A WORK AT HOME JOB IF YOU’RE WILLING TO LIVE AT THIS RESORT! MANAGE AND KEEP UP THE PROPERTY.

Here’s another:
RETAIL MERCHANDISING SUPERVISOR: HOME-BASED BUT MUCH TRAVEL IS REQUIRED.

If a lot of travel is required then its not really home based. It’s the same thing with pharmaceutical sales and many other sales jobs. They are all home based but require tons of travel.

Pre-Screened?
Aside from not having 1000+ jobs in their database and not being 100% home based, the other thing that bothers me is that not all the jobs are pre-screened as they claim. This one is listed in the Mail Order Business section:

GIFT BUSINESS
AVAILABLE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, BUY WHOLESALE PRODUCTS AND SELL AT 50% PROFIT. VISIT WEBSITE FOR MORE INFORMATION

However when I visited the site I noticed that its fairly new. The ‘About’ page had no information and their FAQ page was blank. How could this possibly be prescreened?

Here’s another:
BUSINESS AND LIFE COACH
AS A PROFESSIONAL BUSINESS AND LIFE COACH YOU WILL UTILIZE AND MARKET 3 PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PRODUCTS TO ASSIST OTHERS IN ACHIEVING THEIR LIFE GOALS. MUST HAVE A SUCCESS MINDSET, FOCUS ON CONTINUAL IMPROVEMENT OF PERSONAL LIFE SKILLS, ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT, SERVANT HEART, MONEY MOTIVATED. CAN LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE U.S. OR CANADA. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. SET YOUR OWN LIMITS AND WRITE YOUR OWN PAYCHECK.
PLEASE VISIT WEBSITE, REVIEW INFORMATION AND CLICK ON YOUR INTEREST LEVEL OR CALL WITH QUESTIONS.

The website contained nothing but sponsored links and four pop up ads. In other words the job posting was nothing short of a scam. How is this pre-screened?

Database Not Up To Date
This is probably the most frustrating component of moneyfromhome.com. I tested the content of the database by sending emails to six random companies. The result was that five of the six didn’t even respond to my emails and the sixth company told the position is no longer available.

I also went through the ‘IT and Programming’ category in their database. Here are the results of the first four of five listings in this category:

Technical Support – I went to the website and the job isn’t available.

Web Administrator / Java Developer – The link to the website for this position is a recruiting site and not the company that is offering the job

Java Developer – same as above

Technical Support Engineer – visited the website and the position is no longer available

These jobs are on the first page of results for their category. If anything this information should be up to date.

I also checked their local database for positions. Here is a listing that they had available for Ohio:

However when I visited the company’s website the position wasn’t available.

The annoying thing about this job posting is that after 3 months its still listed in their database.

Final Remarks
While moneyfromhome.com does offer some real work at home jobs like crafts, data entry/transcription services, and travel agent sales positons their marketing tactic, “over 1000 pre-screened home job opportunities to choose from… Remember they’re 100% Home-Based!”, is borderline scammy.

Also, why would I pay for a database that is more outdated than the free ones you see all over the web. I wouldn’t be surprised if many of these companies advertise their available jobs on the top job websites in addition to moneyfromhome. This would mean that when you send an email to these companies you’re pretty much competing with thousands of others applying for the same position. Moneyfromhome doesn’t make any guarantee or even state on their website, for that matter, that paying members have priority when it comes to applying for jobs through their database than over other people applying for the same job via a job site such as Monster.com or Yahoo Hot Jobs. So what benefit do I have in using moneyfromhome.com?

If you’re interested in a list of companies that offer craft and assembly work from home then check out this site: careerathome2.tripod.com. I dont know how dated the information is but at least its free.

Thank you so much for spending the money and time to point out that money from home is just another scam. It’s a shame that there’s a large pool of people that truly have skills but need to work from home due to circumstances and all we can find are scams that take our money and leave us empty handed.

Yvonne,

Thanks for the comment. I am really bothered by the fact that they write so much about how they are honest, different, and scam free and its just a marketing ploy. I can’t stand that!

I would like to think you for this info but I would also like to let you know the book is no good either.I bought it back serval years ago and tried it and those work at home piece work and assembly jobs they have are no good either. When you mail a envelope to respond to one of them the business is no longer in business and the letter is returned also a lot of them want you to pay for the materials.I look at it I want to work at home to help you I don’t want to buy a job thats not a job.Why do I want to buy a job when I can get a free one any where. The old saying is true if it sounds to good to be true its not true.If you have to pay for a job no matter at home or not its not a job.Don’t fall for these old scams.I have payed for work at home in the past a lot of times.I have been scamed everytime don’t fall for it.
Thanks Becky

Thank you for the taking the time to post your experience with moneyfromhome.com. I was initially impressed by their sales pitch content and how it seemed sincere and honest. But you have given us lucky and cautious folks who found your posts the understanding that the content is just crafty wording and reverse psychology. Sounds like just another scam. Peace.
P.S. Non refundable fees should always be a BIG RED FLAG when considering these “opportunities”. Any reputable business offers refunds. Even the best ebay sellers do too.

Bless you for the warning. It all seemed kosher on the site, and I was impressed by its professional appearance and promises, too, until I saw the price tag. Glad I googled and found your post. Again, thanks so much for the good information.

We just signed up for this site, and I just did a similar count of the jobs posted (before I found this post):

Accounting/Bookkeeping 4
Artists/Graphic Designers 13
Assembly/Sewing/Handwork 35
Business Management 5
Business Opportunities from home 28
Business Opportunities - Most popular 1
Consultants & Analysts 12
Counselors, advisors 2
Customer Service/Help Desk 9
Data Entry & Transcription 60
Editors, Proofreaders, Writers 20
Human Resources & Recruiting 30
Information Technology/Programming 59
Mail Order Business 4
Medical 7
Misc Job Types 55
Mystery Shoppers 15
Office Support/admin/Research 14
Online tutors, Scorers, Moderators 10
Other 0
Phone Work-Inbound/Outbound 70
Real Estate, Insurance, Law 62
Reservationists & Travel Agents 13
Sales & Marketing 185
Survey/Research Participants 0
Translators/Interpretors 8
Web Developers/Designers 17

Total = 745 Jobs

This is a far cry from the 1000+ advertised when you sign up. I think based on this alone should be enough to get a refund, or at least open a complaint with the CC company as false advertising. what do you think?

Comment from Ari
Time: September 9, 2007, 6:10 am

Nathan, thanks for the compliment.

Bob, thanks for the update in the total number of jobs as it changes from time to time. Remember though, a lot of the items listed on their site aren’t actually jobs. The Biz opps from home category includes biz start up jobs requiring to invest a load of money. You shouldn’t have to pay for that info. Then you have jobs that are outdated or simply dont exist included in the list in the list as well.

The irony about your blog is, while you review scams, the adsense ads on your page are all promoting junk that you and most people despise.

Has anyone thought about filing a complaint at www.RipOffReport.com?

Comment from Ari
Time: November 5, 2007, 5:56 pm

Hi darryl,

I think there are some sites but they are difficult to find in the mix of all these scamming sites.

There is a website like moneyfromhome.com that doesnt cost anything. They have a database of all sorts of work from home jobs. I should actually write a brief post on them but I havent had time to properly research the site. Its called whydowork.com the name is a little misleading since its all about work but they do have a nice listing of work from home jobs.

Although they screen a lot of the job postings, they advise you to be cautious because some scamming ones could get through. They do provide you with information on what to be on the lookout for to avoid the scamming sites.

Also, I noticed that they have featured listings on the sidebar of their website. Be careful with the link since its a paid advertisement for one of those scamming sites. Good luck.

Comment from Ari
Time: November 5, 2007, 6:08 pm

Sam, you are right about the ads. I havent had time to look for an alternate ad strategy. But I guess the good thing is that every time someone visits the ad it costs the ad owner money and not the visitor.

Hopefully after visiting this site first people would be more cautious before clicking on the ads. Also, if they want more examples of scamming websites they could check the ones that appear in the ads as 99% of them are bogus.

Joyce,
There are actually several entries for moneyfromhome on ripoffreport.com HERE.

Time: November 6, 2007, 12:09 am

I emailed them complaining about the number of listings, and they immediately wanted my account info…(prob to terminate it) Another thing I noticed was the number of ads on the site, linking to business “opportunities”, but outside of their listings…..nice huh? So they are selling advertising to other crap sites just to make more $$$$$ then they took from you.

I actually got started on a job place from there, but the money was just over minimum wage, and ended up finding something off of Monster.com for 3x the amount…..still going threw the paperwork, and interview process….but it is a legitimate company.

Comment from ‘Bob’..I’ll call myself here
Time: November 6, 2007, 12:14 am

Darryl, you can check out www.westathome.com, it is basically customer service out of the house, and they pay you for the 35-45 or so hours (minium wage, of course) just for the training. Some of the accounts is Sears, Virgin Mobile, HSN, etc…they route customer service calls to your home phone and you have to help customers with taking orders, setting up phone service, etc….wages are only minium > 10$ or so…but, it’s out of the house. I was headed this route, but I found something more technical to match my backround, so heading that direction.

It’s December and I’ve just found your artciles here. I am so very thankful to you for spending the money, taking the time, doing the research, and telling the world about this less-than-stellar “opportunity”. In the spirit of giving to others, your money was not wasted. I was about to enroll at moneyfromhome.com and waste $40.00 that I really do not have to spare at this time simply b/c I cannot get hired anywhere locally and do not presently have a set of wheels to help me in this endeavor.

I was rejected again today for a job I could have easily done, would have taken far less pay than I’m worth, and could have walked to–at a church, no less! I was so tempted to login to moneyfromhome.com today with my debit card in tow after getting my let down. Thanks to you, Ari, I will hang on to my money and keep looking. Thank you so much. Your articles have been a blessing to my disappointing day.

Hi Ari: Did you ever do any research on Sohojobs.com? They seem legit but you have to pay money (become a member) to get this valuable info. It all seems so real; can you enlighten me? This is what the crooks count on (looking so real and legitimate until you WANT to sign up). Is anybody policing these sites? Thanks for your input.

Comment from Ari
Time: December 14, 2007, 3:01 am

Hi joyce,

i am responding to both your comments at the same time. there’s no way to find out whats in these sites until you sign up. But my guess is that, as with moneyfromhome, the jobs posted at sohojobs would probably also be posted on sites such as monster.com and other job related sites. Any company looking to hire people would post wherever they could. If you are interested about some of these jobs then try whydowork.com first. You could read my post on this website. They list a lot of the companies that sites like moneyfromhome and possibly sohojobs charge you to see.

I am learning and getting faster at remembering to google and ask.coms I like it seems many others nearly bought into the idea that this was a great site and was extremly happy for a slight moment that I had at last found a trust worthy, reliable, honest site that could lead me to a work at home incom. I filled out all of the required information with great excitement and just as I entered the credit payment card number that little dim light started glowing in the deep empty pockets of my so called brain….down sized the window and did a last second search to find your very valuable posting…you have saved my day and I thank you so much sir from the bottom of my very large heart. I just wish that the little dim light in my head would go off more often first instead of after making the payment…non refundable payment. You are a hero and I hope that more often people see your posting prior to paying. You are a true hero of the day. Thank you so much.

I was just about to sign up for moneyfromhome.com when I realized I better do a little research and your article was the first thing I found. It stopped me from wasting my money and time. Thank you, Ari, like others, I am grateful for your site and the work you do and also was considering joining money from home before finding your website. I am a member of sohojobs.org and no - you can’t find most of these jobs on Monster or Career Builder. Most of the WAH that you find on these sites is MLM or affiliate marketing or just outright scams. Yes, soho does charge a fee for their membership - but please remember that you are not paying for a job. They have been around for over 9 years and I doubt they are going away anytime soon. I found a job through their boards that I definately did not see on any of the mainstream job boards. They are dedicated to keeping the site scam free. Occasionally one will sneak through, but thatnks to the other members and the extensive scam job message board, this very weldom happens. If you want more information on them, please contact me and I will try to answer your questions.

legitonlinejobs.com seems like a waste of time to me. I would stay away from them.

All it took was about five seconds to make that call. I went to their site and when I tried to leave a window popped up asking if I want to talk to a live agent. I knew right away it was B.S. cause these agents are not live. Its 100% fully automated. So there goes their credibility. You’ll see the same type of agent on Igothere.com as well. You could read my review on igothere.com by clicking on it in the sidebar. I even have screenshots on these bogus agents.

Never underestimate the power of the internet. An increasing number of people use the internet
to search for a business or service so having a web presence is an important media for promoting
your company. Web design is a real skill and if your website is to not only look good but work well,
it should be constructed by a professional web designer.

I found the best thing to my friend’s birthday… It’s really hard to find cool and still unique.
So today I saw this thing from ZTARLET on facebook where you can name a real star in the sky and have the certificate and a teddy bear sent to you and pay it by a single SMS. So awesome :)

I saw that Casey Fronczek is offering fishing trips now down in south Florida. Does anybody have any input on these trips or has anyone been on one of these trips before?

I’ve never participated in anything like this before but, the person I received my letter from is a friend of mine, so I have actually seen the letters, with the money in them, that she has started receiving.

Dear Friends: Greetings: I am a retired attorney. A few years ago a man came to me with a letter. He asked me to verify the fact that this was legal to do. I told him I would review it and get back to him. When I first read the letter my client brought me, I thought it was some “off-the-wall” idea to make money. A week and a half later we met in my office to discuss the issue. I told him the letter he originally brought me was not 100% legal. My client then asked me to alter it to make it perfectly legal. I asked him to make one small change in the letter. I was still curious about the letter, so he explained to me how it works. I thought it seemed like a long shot, so I decided against participating. But before my client left, I asked him to keep me updated on his results. About two months later, he called me to tell me he had received over $800,000 in cash. I didn’t believe him, so he asked me to try this idea and find out for myself. I thought about it for a couple of days and decided I really didn’t have anything to lose, so I asked him for a copy of the letters. I followed the instructions exactly, mailed 200 copies, and sure enough, the money started coming in! It arrived slowly at first, but coming. I kept a precise record of the earnings, and in the end, it totaled $978,493! I could hardly believe it. I met with my friend for lunch to find out exactly how it worked. He told me there are quite a few similar letters around, but this one is different because there are six names at the end of the letter, not five like some others. This fact alone results in your name being in far more returns. The other fact was the help I gave him, making sure the whole thing was legal, since no one wants to take the risk of doing something illegal.

By now you are surely curious to know what small changes to make. If you sent a letter like this one out, in order to be completely legal, you must actually sell something in order to receive a dollar in return. So when you send a dollar to each of the names on the list, you must include these words, “PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST” and include your name and address. This is the key to the program. The item you will receive for the dollar you sent to the six people below is the letter.

At the time I first tried this idea, I was earning a good living as a lawyer. But everyone in the legal profession will tell you there is a lot of stress that comes with the job. I told myself if things worked out, I would retired from my practice and play golf. I decided to try the letter again, but this time I sent 500 copies. Three months later , I had totaled $2,341,178!

Here are a few reasons a person might give for not trying this program: 1. Some people think they can never make a lot of money with anything this simple. 2. Some are afraid they will be ridiculed for trying 3. Some dream of large sums of money, but do nothing to actually achieve it. 4. Some are just plain lazy. 5.Some are afraid of losing their investment. They think this program is designed to beat them out of a few dollars.

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Immediately send $1.00 to each of the six people on the list at the end of this letter. Wrap the dollar bill in a note saying “ Please add me to your mailing list” and include your name and address.

2. Copy this letter. You do not have to type it 200 times. Simply place your cursor at the top of the page, hold it and drag it all the way down to the end of the letter. Then click on ‘edit’ and select ‘copy’. Now open up a notepad file on your computer and put the cursor at the top of the page in the notepad, click on ‘edit’ and then select ‘paste’ it will copy the letter for you onto your computer.

3. Remove the name next to the #1 on the list and move the rest of the names up one position (#2 becomes #1, #3 becomes #2, etc…..) Then place your name in the #6 position. Then save it, make sure it is saved as a txt. file.

4. When you have completed the instructions, take this letter and mail it to 200 people or go to (Google,Yahoo,…) and type in (Making Money Message board,or post message,…)and start posting your copy to 200 message boards,or more this is only the minimum, you can post as much as you like…The more copies you send the better the results. Keep a copy of this letter so you can use it a second time. Post it out again in six months, but Post it with the addresses you receive with each dollar. It will work better the second time. NOTE: This service is 100% legal - (Refer to title 18 section 1302 of the U.S. Postal & lottery laws)
How does it work? When you send out 200 Posts, it is estimated that at least 15 people will respond and send you a $1.00. ($15.00) Those 15 will Post 200 Posts each and 225 people send you $1.00 ($225.00) Those 225 people Post 200 Posts each and 3,375 people send you $1.00 ($3,375.00) Those 3,375 post 200 posts each and 759,375 people send you $1.00 ($759,375.00) At this point your name drops off the list, but so far you have received $813,615.00. P.S. When your money begins to come in, give the first 10% to charity with spirit and share a good fortune!

If the initial start-up money is a major part of why you probably wouldn’t decide to try this (which was a big concern of mine) try only sending out 50 or 100 copies of the letter. Of course if it does work, this will change the amount of money you could have possibly made. I myself haven’t decided how many I am actually going to send out the first time.

I will post updates every couple of weeks as to whether or not it seems to be working.

it’s NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests
